G Overall Rating: 4/5 (7.5/10 for Andrew) Maximo is a gem tucked away in Houston's West University area, a hidden spot with serious Tex-Mex flair. A creation by the team behind Local Foods, Maximo combines bold flavors with a charming, intimate vibe that leaves an impression. Burger with Coffee Rub and Meaty Bacon: 8/10 This burger was an experience--thick, juicy, and layered with that deep coffee rub flavor, balanced perfectly by the crispy, thick-cut bacon. The smash-burger style kept it tender and flavorful, and the garnishes added just the right pop. Hearty yet easy to savor. YETI Frozen Margaritas: 7/10 I was sold on the presentation alone! Served in a limited-edition YETI cup adorned with Día de los Muertos art, the margaritas came with a bonus: discounted refills. An irresistible touch, though the margarita itself was solid, not overly sweet, and refreshing. Taquitos Dorados: 8/10 These were a pleasant surprise. The dark, purple-hued tortillas stood out visually, and the flavors delivered. Each bite had a nice crunch, and the vibrant toppings brought the plate to life. Although the chicken was on the dry side, the sauces revived it and made the dish memorable. Overall, Maximo is a cozy, lively spot that delivers on the Tex-Mex experience. It's the kind of place that makes you eager to explore the rest of the menu. Looking forward to more visits to this neighborhood favorite!

First time eating at Maximo. Was small and nice ambiance. Waiter was really nice. Tried all the tacos and favorite was the chicken tinga. Recommend the patio if available. This location is across from a school and park that you can walk around afterward. Great for a date night.

Maximo is like Tex Mex meeting Texas Barbecue cooking style. I was appalled by how much I enjoyed this spot. The Maximo Margaritas are a must. I ordered mine spicy on the rocks with Tajín. Also tried the Huevos Divorciados and it was one of the better divorced egg dishes I've had. An unexpected surprise was the tostadas that housed the eggs. I got some home made corn tortillas on the side and I should have ordered more. Also tried the steak and egg hurache. Great flavor but the eggs and steak were a little too done for my taste. Finished the meal with Abuelita's Pot de Creme which is like a chocolate fondue. If you're a chocolate lover, this is a must try. Overall this spot is amazing and you need to come here.

Quaint little restaurant with great vibes. The service was great. The guacamole and queso were decent. The fish taco was my fave. The batbacoa taco was highly recommended by our server but I found it to be extremely greasy. It did have good flavor though. The tres leches cake was very tasty as well.

I was anxiously waiting for El Toro to reopen and excited to see Maximo. We went on a weekday evening (probably Wednesday) and parking was a breeze across the street. We considered sitting outside with the many other outside diners, but I was wearing jeans in June and couldn't take the humidity. A table inside opened up right as we entered. Seating was pretty tight, but still comfortable. Started with the salsa and house-made chips! Very flavorful!! We tried taco plate with the soup (later found out from a friend that she loves that same soup served at Lee's Den)! The fungi taco had three different mushrooms, delish!

Top notch food, drinks, and service. Everything tasted so fresh and the flavor combos were on point. -Margs: I liked the half frozen half on the rocks more than the spicy skinny marg but regardless I was feeling good after both -Al pastor taco this is a special right now and it was great the meat was so tender and flavorful -Barbacoa taco was the best Barbacoa I've ever had. Not greasy/fatty all. -Crispy fish taco the batter was perfectly crispy and not overbearing and the slaw was so fresh and crunchy All tacos are served in corn tortillas that were also amazing and no overpowering corn flavor you get at some places. I asked for their spiciest sauce which was excellent. I sat at the bar and Gia was top notch she had great recommendations, described the food perfectly, and was super attentive. This place is such a cute neighborhood restaurant. Can't wait to come back and try more things.

My husband and I are FREQUENT patrons of local foods (let's just say we go there on average 2x a month), so we knew we would like Maximo as well. Lucky for us, Maximo is even a shorter drive for us than the rice village local foods. On a Monday lunch, the small space was bustling with people. We chose a small two seat table since the weather had started warming up outside. It was a little tight, I have to say, and the Chinese lady next to us speaking extremely loudly on FaceTime was not exactly pleasant. I had a hard time hearing my husband. Nevertheless, the food was delightful and eventually the loud lady ended her call (whew). My husband ordered the barbacoa grilled cheese which tastes like something we've ordered from local foods. Barbacoa was well seasoned, done perfectly and delicious with the brioche toast slathered in grilled cheese. I got a tempura mushroom taco and the smoked chicken taco with a side of lentils and rice. Everything was delicious but for some reason the red rice just really hit the spot. I wasn't even craving Mexican rice or anything, but I couldn't stop eating the rice until it was all gone! I loved the corn crisp chili oil that goes with the tempura mushroom, it had the aroma and taste of sichuan spicy oil without the crazy kick, perfect combination with the tempura mushroom. Smoked chicken was excellent as well. It was served over a bed of sweet yellow cream that to me resembles corn grits. Not your traditional tacos, but innovative and tasty. We finished all our food and enjoyed every bite. Definitely another awesome restaurant by local foods *applause*. Will definitely be back!
